(48) Overloaded Sentence

Writers should be careful to balance the information included in any one sentence. [REVISE]

Writers in academic and scholarly situations may face two situations:

• Tackling highly sophisticated and complex ideas.

• Feeling pressure to express themselves in sophisticated and complex ways.

Both of these situations may lead writers to overload their sentences with too many ideas, too complex diction, or both.

Writers should strive for clarity and simplicity, even in the face of complex ideas.
