(33) Choppy Construction

Writing benefits from purposeful sentence and paragraph variety. The grammatical patterns of sentences and paragraphs, the lengths of sentences and paragraphs, and the overall rhythm of sentences and paragraphs must be considered as the writer drafts. [EDIT]

Sophisticated writers vary sentence patterns—rhythm and length—with purpose. Writers should take care to avoid choppy sentence formation. Combining sentence through purposeful coordination [see (36)] and subordination [see (35)] techniques will often address choppy constructions.
